The first phase of the new urban quarter on the historic Hipodroomi site has been completed, with the first residents moving in this September. The development’s show apartment has been furnished with custom-made furniture and designer lighting, bringing the total cost of the interior to nearly €100,000.
The first phase of the new urban quarter being developed on Tallinn’s historic Hipodroomi site is now complete, and the first residents will begin moving into their new homes in September. The first phase of Reterra’s development comprises five buildings with a total of 101 apartments. The total investment in the first phase, including the underground tunnel, amounts to €46.2 million.
The former racecourse is gradually being transformed into a new urban meeting place where, alongside homes, there will also be services, businesses, green spaces and public areas. The first buildings are located at Merimetsa tee 6 and Merimetsa tee 8. In addition to apartments, the ground floor of Merimetsa tee 6 includes six commercial spaces intended for restaurants, services and retail.
For the first time, the newly completed Hipodroomi Kvartal will open its doors to the public on 19 September. During the community day, which will run from 12:00 to 20:00, visitors will be able to explore the new homes and show apartments, take part in walking tours and hear stories about the area’s colourful history. Tours focusing on the history of Hipodroomi will be led by well-known historian Jaak Juske. The programme will also include the “Rõdujutud” discussion series, an acoustic concert by Eleryn Tiit, and a tunnel cinema experience in Hipodroomi’s 250-metre-long tunnel to conclude the day.
The development’s show apartment has been designed in a contemporary, modern style by interior designer Kristtina Tolli. The interior features striking world-class designer lighting, custom-made upholstered furniture by Sofaservice, as well as an Aunman designer kitchen and built-in furniture. The complete interior cost nearly €100,000, making it one of the most expensively furnished show apartments among Reterra’s developments.
“The preparation and planning of the Hipodroomi development has been a long process, and the arrival of the first residents will transform what has so far existed mainly on drawings and as a construction site into a genuinely functioning living environment. With the next phases, new homes, commercial spaces and public urban areas will gradually be added to the neighbourhood,” says Reigo Randmets, Partner and CEO of Reterra. “The completion of the first phase is a significant milestone for us, as the overall character of the quarter is now becoming increasingly clear — a contemporary urban environment where homes, services, green spaces and opportunities for getting around are thoughtfully interconnected.”
