At the Hipodroom press conference held on April 22, Reterra, together with representatives from Tallinn City Government, the Tallinn Transport Department, and Tallinna Vesi AS, explained how the construction work will affect traffic management in the area.
Work on the reconstruction of the Hipodroom junction in Tallinn began on May 5 and will last for around a year and a half, bringing along temporary traffic changes. The reconstruction will connect the city with the new Hipodroom Quarter.
Joel Jesse, Deputy Mayor for Transport, said at the press conference that the project will help connect the new Hipodroom Quarter with the rest of the city and make the heavily trafficked Paldiski Road safer and more secure for all commuters.
Reterra is one of the project’s funders and is committed to ensuring that the new solution gives Paldiski Road a more modern look, improves mobility for pedestrians and cyclists, and adds more greenery to the area.
During construction, the junction will remain open to traffic, but traffic management will change in stages. During April 27-29, there will be minor road closures in the junction area. During May 5-29, the inbound direction of the junction will be closed, and traffic in both directions will be diverted to the opposite lane. From June 1, the outbound lane will be closed from Merelahe Road to Mooni Street, and traffic will be diverted to the inbound lane. Public transport routes serving the area will remain unchanged until June 1. Further changes and timetables will be announced in June.
The total cost of the project is €11.6 million. The cost of the reconstruction will be covered by the developers Alfa Property OÜ and Reterra Estate OÜ, with additional contributions from AS Tallinna Vesi, AS Utilitas Tallinna Soojus, and the City of Tallinn. To carry out the construction work, Alfa Property OÜ, AS Tallinna Vesi, and AS Utilitas Tallinna Soojus have entered into a joint agreement with Megido OÜ, Giga Ehitus OÜ, and Viamer Grupp OÜ. Megido OÜ is the head coordinator of the works.
